Race Report: CRA Hubbard Ohio

Result: 1st
It definitely feels like the end of the season here. It seems like the cold weather has come a little early here in Ohio with the trees all turning bright orange and red. Its tough to get out there training, road cycling needs several extra layers of cloths and a Mt Bike the other day with JT and his mate Anthony ended in finding our way back to the vehicle in darkness.
Over the weekend I got to a CRA event near Hubbard OH. It was a pretty fun track with plenty of mud holes, a section around a junk yard and a unique start.
For some reason at this event they decided to have a mass start, one row, something Im familiar with as most of our races in NZ start like this. The other thing, it was a live engine moto type start. But the start of the race was signaled by a guy waving a hat!!! I guess he was the Official starter, I pinned it when the hat got waved??!! I hope he wasn't just an excited spectator. Anyway everybody went so I think it was the "Official" start. I grabbed the holeshot and controlled the race. Only short laps of about nine minutes but the track was fun so the race progressed quickly. A 4th gear tapped out, up hill ski jump had a small crowd gather as did the numerous bog holes that deteriorated quickly with lines going everywhere.
After 2 hour racing I took the win. It was a fun track and turned into a good bit of training.

Whibbs18 Aug : 06:50 Hi "Other Paul" We had a great time in MN. The track was great, I was having a lot of fun and was pretty disappointed when my day ended early. One of my favorite tracks this year! Will have to come back sometime and try win it. We have to thank the Debel family for letting us stay and showing us around.

Whibbs27 Jul : 05:40 Im still working on finding that perfect mapping. I have tried smoother maps but I also keep coming back to the std map for the power it produces. I have used the G2 throttle cams to mellow it out. Also Im now testing the Q4 FMF silencer. This takes that initial surge away. Now I may be able to go back to a more aggressive throttle cam and mapping. With more testing I hope to have a better idea. I will let you know what I come up with.
eazrider27 Jul : 02:52 Paul, good on ya' and your Yammy..I also have a 2010 450f, and am curious if you would share MAP settings you typically might use for different types of terrain. I find the stock mapping a bit abrupt for off road, tight terrain, but stock seems to work well for motocross. I can adjust timing/fuel mixture to take the 'surge" off initial throttle, but it also takes the 'snap" away that I like to use to steer with the rear wheel...any thoughts..? Wuld like to hearr recommendations...
