With the last spare weekend of the season I received an invite from Joe Halcomb to come down to Indiana and race an IXCR event.
On arriving at the track with Joe I realized I had been to this venue before. It was the same place that I raced my first OMA event about 4 years ago.
The morning was frosty and cold and the sun was a welcome sight as it breathed some warmth into the still air. Watching the kids race in the morning showed the track was slick. The clay soil had been packed down hard and the moisture from the morning frost just made it so slippery.
My race started around 12, thankfully it had warmed up some by then. I grabbed the early lead but found the track so slippery that pushing hard was impossible. I had my Vortex ignition on my bike and switched maps to a very smooth one via the switch on the bars after the first mile of the track. This made it a lot easier to control the big KX. I now begin to slowly build a lead but still conditions made it really tough to go fast.
The track had some fun features with the rock dropoff attracting some spectators and catching a few riders out. There was also a creek jump that provided a brief break from the slick trails. Plenty of rocks also kept riders on their toes and on one rocky slick hill I saw a pool of oil. I'm guessing someone wasn't having a good day.
With the white flag coming out and having a comfortable lead the last lap was completed safely.

Whibbs18 Aug : 06:50 Hi "Other Paul" We had a great time in MN. The track was great, I was having a lot of fun and was pretty disappointed when my day ended early. One of my favorite tracks this year! Will have to come back sometime and try win it. We have to thank the Debel family for letting us stay and showing us around.

Whibbs27 Jul : 05:40 Im still working on finding that perfect mapping. I have tried smoother maps but I also keep coming back to the std map for the power it produces. I have used the G2 throttle cams to mellow it out. Also Im now testing the Q4 FMF silencer. This takes that initial surge away. Now I may be able to go back to a more aggressive throttle cam and mapping. With more testing I hope to have a better idea. I will let you know what I come up with.
eazrider27 Jul : 02:52 Paul, good on ya' and your Yammy..I also have a 2010 450f, and am curious if you would share MAP settings you typically might use for different types of terrain. I find the stock mapping a bit abrupt for off road, tight terrain, but stock seems to work well for motocross. I can adjust timing/fuel mixture to take the 'surge" off initial throttle, but it also takes the 'snap" away that I like to use to steer with the rear wheel...any thoughts..? Wuld like to hearr recommendations...

Whibbs05 Jun : 07:02 Pretty proud to be recognized as Tararua's Sports person of the year. Also good for the sport of Motorcycle racing to be acknowledged and put in the spotlight. Also you never know were racing will take me. If the schedule falls into place, I may turn up to a CRA event.
