Race Report: Belray XC Rnd 3

The final round of the Belray XC series was held in dry and slightly dusty conditions on Allens property near Rangiriri in the Waikato.
Lining up on the front row ready for the shotgun start. With hands on head, the shotgun blasted and the race was on. My YZF fired up quickly and I took the holeshot and control of the race. Conditions on some parts of the track that the juniors had used had deteriorated to powder, especially in some of the gateways. Although with one lap in the books it was clear some effort had been made to lay out a fun and challenging track for the riders. With some offcambers and a couple of sections darting through some native bush as well as the typical flat out rolling farmland found at all Belray XCs.
I opened up a lead quickly and maintained it throughout the race. I was impressed by the handling of the new YZF through the rough chop that developed on many of the uphills.
Because of the length of the lap I opted to pit twice, thanks to Polly and Kaz for being the fastest pit crew in the west.
After gassing for the last time, only two laps remained and with a good lead there was time to enjoy some of the natural jumps over the rolling hills.
Thanks to Gordy and Carol for again letting me pit under the Property Brokers Tent.
Straight after the race I loaded up and was on a mission to get back to the Enduro X event at the Desert Storm Trail ride but unfortunately with the Belray starting a little late, I missed the Enduro X.

Whibbs18 Aug : 06:50 Hi "Other Paul" We had a great time in MN. The track was great, I was having a lot of fun and was pretty disappointed when my day ended early. One of my favorite tracks this year! Will have to come back sometime and try win it. We have to thank the Debel family for letting us stay and showing us around.

Whibbs27 Jul : 05:40 Im still working on finding that perfect mapping. I have tried smoother maps but I also keep coming back to the std map for the power it produces. I have used the G2 throttle cams to mellow it out. Also Im now testing the Q4 FMF silencer. This takes that initial surge away. Now I may be able to go back to a more aggressive throttle cam and mapping. With more testing I hope to have a better idea. I will let you know what I come up with.
eazrider27 Jul : 02:52 Paul, good on ya' and your Yammy..I also have a 2010 450f, and am curious if you would share MAP settings you typically might use for different types of terrain. I find the stock mapping a bit abrupt for off road, tight terrain, but stock seems to work well for motocross. I can adjust timing/fuel mixture to take the 'surge" off initial throttle, but it also takes the 'snap" away that I like to use to steer with the rear wheel...any thoughts..? Wuld like to hearr recommendations...
